| What
is the RGI Conflict Resolution Course?
The RGI Conflict
Resolution course is a three day intensive training experience
for protector professionals who want to enhance their ability
to resolve physical, verbal and
cross-cultural conflict. Top conflict resolution specialists
from the law enforcement, military and martial art worlds will
facilitate the course (please see bios below). Participation in
the course results in a Level I certification in RGI Conflict Resolution
Skills.
It is a synergistic course covering the following elements:
Course
Description.
This 3 day
certification course utilizes a combination of lectures, group discussion, and physical training scenarios.
As a participant you will:
- Enhance your
technical and tactical physical defensive skills across the
spectrum of violence.
- Develop a better
understanding of moral values and ethics as they pertain to your
life and profession.
- Understand the art
of keeping the “moral compass” calibrated.
- Learn to
communicate better under stress to resolve conflict.
- Learn how to deal
more effectively with cultural differences regardless of whether
or not you “know” the culture.
- Gain insight into
what to do when cultural differences cannot be reconciled.
Who should attend.
This course
is open to anyone:
- Leaders
in military, law enforcement, mental
health, business, education, etc.
- Martial
artists and defensive tactics instructors.
- Business and
thought leaders in physical-moral leadership and
ethics.
Note.
Although physical in nature, the training does not require
any special level of physical fitness or previous martial arts
training.

Gray is a businessman, speaker, trainer and Subject Matter Expert (SME)
for numerous law enforcement agencies, including the West Michigan
Criminal Justice Training Consortium, the Allegan County Sheriff's
Department, and many others. Craig is responsible for creating the
MCOLES (Michigan Commission of Law Enforcement Standards) approved
Self Defense for Law Enforcement Training Program. He is an adjunct
instructor for hand to hand combatives and warrior ethics at the
Homeland Security and Protective Services Academy. |

Bruce
Gourlie is a Special Agent of the FBI who has been certified as both
a Firearms and General Police Instructor. Mr. Gourlie has
written published articles on the subject of Law Enforcement Ethics
and Leadership. Mr. Gourlie is a former U.S. Army Infantry
officer and a long time practitioner of the martial arts. |

Jack
Hoban |
Jack Hoban, a Subject Matter Expert
(SME) for the U.S. Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP), has led over 500 workshops and seminars around the world. He has addressed the FBI, universities, and other government and private organizations on ethics and martial arts over the last two decades. His presentations are interactive, informative and entertaining. His business and military experiences, as well as an extensive 30-year background in martial arts, give him a unique and interesting perspective.
Hoban served as a U.S. Marine Corps officer and
is a long time practitioner of
martial arts. He assisted in the creation of MCMAP and continues to
teach the program at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia and
elsewhere. For 17 years Hoban was an associate of the late Robert L. Humphrey, noted
conflict resolution specialist, and author of Values for a New

Gary Klugiewicz |
Gary T. Klugiewicz is employed by PoliceOne as a police and corrections subject matter expert. He is retired from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department after 25 years of service where he was promoted to the rank of captain. Gary has been a Verbal Judo Instructor for the last fifteen years. For the last five years, he has been closely associated with Dr. George Thompson, the CEO and founder of the Verbal Judo Institute, in developing new training methodologies for the classic Verbal Judo concepts and tactics.

Joe Lau, RN |
Joseph
Lau, RN is an emergency room nurse and long-time practitioner
of martial arts. He has taught workshops on Dr. Robert L. Humphrey's
Dual Live Value Theory in the U.S. and Japan.
Joe was also the Senior Instructor for many years at
the Tom Brown Tracker School. Joe is a member of the
Emergency Nurses Association and the International Association of Genocide Scholars.

Arthur
D. Mark is a veteran detective with nearly 20 years experience in a
large metropolitan police department.
He has numerous awards and citations and served in an elite
plainclothes gun unit for many of those years.
Based upon his experiences,
Mr. Mark has developed an effective street smart
communication style that those in the protector professions can utilize
to facilitate more peaceful outcomes when dealing with conflict. Mr.
Mark has also been an avid student and teacher of traditional
Japanese martial arts for over 30 years. |

Pensak |
Brian
K. Pensak is a retired 30 year veteran of the United States Marine
Corps.
An infantry Marine with combat, Foreign Military Exchange
Program, and Marine Security Guard tours in over 20 countries.
He is Marine Corps Martial Arts Program Instructor Trainer
and Subject Matter Expert (SME).
He currently serves as the Executive Officer, Weapons
Training Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
An eternal
student, the Sergeant Major continues to learn from, and
teach Values,
Leadership, and Mentoring to Marines and others. |

Shanahan |
James Shanahan is a decorated veteran detective with nearly thirty years of experience. He currently serves as the senior instructor of one of the largest police departments in the country. He holds advanced certification and is a subject matter expert (SME) on teaching the use of force with a specialization in less lethal options, as well as non-physical techniques aimed at resolving conflict. He teaches Critical Incident Stress Management, Mediation, Criminal Investigation and Hostage Negotiation. He has taught throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean including military personnel assigned to Guantanamo Bay Cuba, West Point, Annapolis and other select venues. James is a member of the adjunct faculty of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is an accomplished film, TV and off-Broadway actor. Additionally, he is a lifelong
practitioner of traditional Japanese martial arts. |

Shusko |
Joseph
C. Shusko is a decorated veteran who served the United States Marine
Corps for over 30 years. An accomplished aviator who spent the
majority of his career flying helicopters. While serving as a White
House Liaison Officer (WHLO) at HMX-1, he was designated a
Presidential Helicopter Pilot under the Reagan Administration. In
August of 2003 he assumed command of the Marine Corps Martial Arts
Center of Excellence. He is now serving as the Deputy Director, Marine
Corps Martial Arts Center of Excellence overseeing the Corps Martial
Arts Program. He is a Stafford Sheriff Department volunteer Officer.
He has taught "Values" throughout the United States
and abroad. He has been instructing and participating in
martial arts and physical fitness since the early 1970's. |

Woerner |
Mike
Woerner is a Senior Inspector for the US Marshals Service, he has
run the Fugitive Task force/tactical team in Upstate NY for the last
10 years. He has over thirty years in the Martial Arts, the
last 20 in the Bujinkan. Mike is the lead Defensive Tactics
instructor for the US Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task
force. |
